IT’S GETTING COLD… MOVIE TIME!!!

I don’t know about you… but during the cold and icy winter time, I like to stay in, make some cookies curl up on my couch and watch a movie. Deciding to watch movies is the easy part, knowing which one to rent is the tricky part. I think that arriving at the rental store and not knowing what movie to rent is the most frustrating thing about movie night. Which movie? Is it good? How long is it…? The list goes on and on. I figured out a wonderful way to ease the movie rental tension cutting time in half but still having the perfect movie to rent. How??? The internet of course!!! There are thousands of site online that can help you rent the perfect movie. With expert comments, various blogs and legit critiques, renting a movie has never been this easy. Check out rottentomato.com or type in “movie reviews” on Google and see just how easy reviewing movies can be. Once you know what you wish to rent, the hard part is over. Just drive to the store, ask the cashier if they have it in stock, pay and that’s it. You have the rental you want with no hassle. It might seem “outside the box” to surf the web for DVD rentals, but in the end you will plenty of time…maybe enough time to make a second batch of cookies.YUM and ENJOY!

BMW_ BLACK LISTED

I just thought that it will be intresting to share this with you guys,

Did you know that the German BMW website was black listed by google for using black hat techniques?

Interestingly, the website was opening doorway pages for the term “used car” and as you can imagine, google was not happy with that, and thus black listed them on janurary 2006.

I guess wither you are a small company or a giant in the car indusrty, using un-ethical tricks can get you busted.

Targeting Customers as well as Targeting Key Words

One big mistake that companies can do when optimizing websites is focusing on targeting keywords and forgetting about targeting customers. Unless customers are taken into account, I personally believe that search engine optimization’s positive effect can be limited. What am trying to say is that it’s important to keep the customers intent, characteristics, and demographics in mind when choosing the right keywords. Try to put yourself in the customer’s shoes, what they might be thinking when they search for the desired goods and services. Do they usually search alone, or with someone beside them? Are they too old, do they let someone else do the search for them? What words are they comfortable using?  Some generations are not aware of new trendy phrases, so make sure that your keywords fit your customer’s profile.

  • If your website is designed for children, make sure you use easy and simple keywords.
  • If your website is designed for old people, make sure that there are no technical keywords in your text, or that you don’t use “new” words or phrases that they may not understand.

Sometimes it is better to target a smaller market and gain all of it, than targeting a big market and gaining a small share.

Shopping on Columbus Day

As you know, it’s a long weekend. Monday is Columbus Day in the States and Thanksgiving Day here in Canada.

I’ve noticed there is a lot of electronic products on sale this weekend. Time to go shopping, see ya!

Seriously, if you really need a new laptop, monitor or hard drive, it might be a good idea to check out what the consumer electronics retailers nearest you have to offer.

Some of them seem to have pretty good deals right now.

Remember: It’s easier to work in an organized environment, especially if you are working all day long in front of a computer.

Getting the electronic products and accessories as well as storage office supplies and furniture you need to work efficiently at your full potential will pay off and save you precious time instead of trying to arrange your work station every morning.

Happy Thanksgiving Day and Columbus day, everyone!

The new problem Google is challenging now

Your website has been dumped from the search engines and you don’t know why? It might be because someone had copied your site. This is a new thing people are using in the SEO world to bump other site. Google is aware of that problem and let’s hope that they will come with a solution very shortly. Allow me to explain!!!

Suppose someone copy your site and of course, you don’t know nothing about it but Google does. Google can’t put both on his index. Google will have to decide which site goes on top. Where does the other site goes? Google will put that other site in his Supplemental Index. Yes, If you are a fervent reader of your blog, Supplemental Index has been talked about already :) If you don’t remember, let me refresh your memory, Google has 2 indexes, the main one and the supplemental one. When there is a request, Google always return the result from his first index first and if there is no result, Google uses the result from his second index. That means that if your site is in the second index, between you and me, what are the chances that it will be on top of the search engine??? NOT EXISTENT unless there is no competition. I don’t know if you understand how bad this is.

What if the person who copied your site convinced Google that the content is theirs and you are the copycat… you are in trouble.  Of course, you can always relay on copyright protection or get a reclusion letter from Google but this is where it gets bad. Wait there is more and this is the whole point for this article:  Nowadays,  there is also the use of ” caching proxy server” .  Wikipedia  describes a proxy server  as:

In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) which services the requests of its clients by forwarding requests to other servers.

A proxy server can service requests without contacting the specified server, by retrieving content saved from a previous request, made by the same client or even other clients. This is called caching. The main purpose of the proxy server was supposs to make the web run faster. The way it works is pretty simple:  let’s say I run a web proxy server, I too have bots that goes and crawl pages on the web then save  everything on my proxy site. Now,  let’s say a user request a page, well if that page is  on my proxy, I will display the copy of your page instead of getting it from the original server because it is faster.  Google can sometimes decide that the copy of your site that is host in a proxy server is the original instead of the real one that is on your server!!!

Let me resume this: someone can copy my site and host it in his proxy server, then use SEO from my copy on his server to rank it on the search engine.  Google can presume that their page is good and put my page in their supplemental index.

You have to be very careful with your site. Make sure that you read the guidelines on the major search engine on how to identify their spiders. Ask your web hosting company what they can do to protect your site.

SEO Spammer or Educator Expert?

Evolvement of search engines’ algorithms effect SEO variables, but one thing that remains constant is “Useful Content” and “Links Relevancy”. Having useful content and links from relevant sites on your site will be ranked better for particular subject keyword phrases on Search Engine Page Result than sites that don’t.

As a result, many Search Engine Optimizers decide to focus deeper on how a web page is created for search engine robots over optimizing a site for humans, who are your website visitors, in a manner that search engines appreciate. Yes, you would like to be ranked higher by having such a search engine friendly page but I don’t think it is fair enough for your prospects to be neglected with such useful information what you about to offer. Major search engines’ algorithms have capability to alert their manual abuse administration for certain pages that are qualified in “spammer” category. Nothing can miss manual inspection of your abusive action on your page. You could fool the robot, but you cannot fool Humans.

Managing Your Spam

SPAM: What can you do about it

While tech-heads work on better ways of stemming the flow of spam on a global level, there are a few things you can do at home to protect your computer. Here are three nuggets of wisdom:

PLAY SAFE- Update anti-virus and spam-filtering software on your computer, whether it is built in to your e-mail program or a separate package.

DRESS IN LAYERS- Consider using an e-mail service that offers front- line spam shields which inspect e-mail before it reaches your computer. It is also a good idea to have an alternative e-mail account that you can use when signing up for online offers.

SMARTEN UP- This is not the one time when eBay, PayPal, or your bank is really asking for your sensitive account information via e-mail. The best defence against spam is simple, old fashioned common sense.

Educate yourself on the tactics of the junk e-mailers.

Relationship Marketing

What is relationship marketing?

A form of marketing that puts particular emphasis on building a longer-term, more intimate bond between an organization and its individual customers. It involves understanding the customers’ needs as they go through their life cycles. It emphasizes providing a range of products or services to existing customers as they need them.

Relationship marketing steered into building individual bonds with customers. These days, mass marketing strategy is really taken over by big companies who are ready with their huge marketing budget to spend. Mass marketing can be effective but also expensive and has lacks of retroviral relationship with the customer. Just think ….. If you do mass marketing as an example mailing or emailing, which is NOT a good thing to do and NOT recommended to do at all in any shape of performance, how many customer do you get back in contact to go to the next level of your sales marketing? You spent your dollar, less ROI.

Relationship marketing gives business owners greater return of investment (ROI). It effectives because business owners could create smaller segments that leads them towards relationship marketing.
