Google Chrome Browser
On Monday Google released new browser called Google Chrome. You can download it here.
I was hoping to do a review, but it keeps crashing, even after several re-installations. Hope Google fixes this issue soon.

Google accidentally (or was it a PR stunt?) released a comic book explaining Chrome, which led to the release of the beta Chrome to the public in over 100 languages. You can see download link on Google’s homepage.

Up Against Microsoft
Chrome is going full against Internet Explorer

Browser is the most important piece of internet software and being an internet leader, Google has got to dip it’s hands there. On top of added revenues from the Omnibox and the search box, Google can lure more long term customers from Microsoft. Unlike with Docs, Spreadsheet and other shots at Microsoft, this one has big potential against IE.
Microsoft is integrating more of it’s products into the browser(maps) and according to several articles from Techmeme this was the reason for early release of Chrome.
One author at Techcrunch made claims that Chrome is a Windows killer, paving the way to browser only OS, but I don’t see how this is possible. How can you operate only out of a browser? Seems very limited, but I guess it’s either I’m not savvy enough, don’t have an open mind, or author at Techmeme really hates microsoft and likes to rant about anything that can put it down.
Chrome is a huge part of Google internet strategy. If it can lure users, it will get access to more behavioral data, past the search results, which can be integrated into the search engine (something Microsoft is doing with Browse Rank). On top of behavioral data Google can introduce more apps and software through the browser, which goes against or outpaces it’s biggest rival – Microsoft.
Chrome Privacy Issues
As first noted by CNET News on Tuesday, Chrome’s End User License agreement appeared to give Google a perpetual right to use anything one entered into the browser. Section 11 stated that although users retain copyright to their works, “by submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.” – CNET
Ouch… that sounds really bad. Very big brotherish. Google told CNET it will keep 2% of user data from it’s browser.
Google Pagerank Indicator?
Barry of Search Engine Roundtable is worried about Google PageRank bar which is missing in chrome:
why is it missing? Is it just a feature that may be coming in the future or was this intentionally left out?
Matt Cutts said in December 2007: “Personally, I wouldn’t mind removing the PageRank in the Google Toolbar or swapping it with some other indicator, but that would be a large undertaking. Maybe that can be a long-term goal for me.
”
It’s logical Matt had influence on this. Could he leave it out on purpose?
