Michael Wilson - Founder & President
It wasn't very long after Jean Polly coined the term "Surfing the Internet" in 1992 that Michael jumped into the ocean known as the world wide web and pretty much stayed there. Known to many of his techie friends as the 'waterman', surfing soon turned into deep sea diving. When asked to described the key ingredients for the perfect day, Michael will usually say '18 hours, no interruptions, and a high speed connection'.
An academic background in the technologies and early career successes in marketing, Michael began his professional transition toward the web as an Internet Cop helping law enforcement track down hackers and other criminals. "In the very early days, internet business models struggled for a while so most of us kept our day jobs". While he was idling, he started to build websites which eventually lead to the development and launch of a highly successful US Yellow Pages. This opened further opportunities to gain new experience by working with forwarding thinking clients and early adopters into the emerging world of internet marketing. Early on Michael saw that a way to get his clients' businesses to flourish was to use his talents to get them on top of the search engines. The power of the internet has completely changed Michael's life. He met his wife on the internet from 12 000 miles away, who was also a member of a volunteer group of advanced open network administrators. They fell in love and Auriella moved to Montreal were they turned their home into an internet command center; "she was smarter than me, so I had no choice but to marry her". With computers everywhere, their living room looked more like a data center, and they worked together regularly into the wee hours of the morning. Years later they continue to work together, only the business has grown and the living room has now been moved to their offices in downtown Montreal. Their office is located on bustling St. Catherine street (Main street) were they say that they like the idea that people can just come down and learn what search engines and internet marketing is all about and what it can do for their business.
Michael will be the first to say that the internet holds fast untold fortunes for all... but none more valuable than when he was reunited in 2004 with his biological mother and introduced to his younger brothers and sisters all of whom live in Southern California. Abdo Mazloum - SEO Development Manager
Abdo holds the distinction of being the youngest member of the company's management team, and as such enjoys the time honoured responsibility of ensuring fresh coffee for the weekly management meetings. We think this honour may be going to his head... that, or it might be the fact that he is rapidly becoming one of the best talents in his field (and we are a tough crowd when it comes to our SEO).
In January 2004, fresh out of high school, Abdo left his small home town in Mount-Lebanon called Kaakour to pursue his studies at Bishop's University in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Four years later, he received his Bachelors of Science degree (Computer Science Major and a Business Minor). Abdo applied his smarts and strong leadership skills throughout his 4 year university career, tutoring students in mathematics, physics, and various computer science courses. He also led his robotics project team to victory at the department's end of year exhibit. And following graduation, Abdo was honoured with the Computer Science Faculty Appreciation Prize, an award for his great contribution to the life of the department.
With the ink on his diploma barely dry, Abdo joined our company as a routine expansion of our development team, albeit he evaluated at an expert level in PHP, HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, SEO, SEM, Java, Visual Basic .NET, Interactive C, Scheme, SQL, Windows, Unix and Linux. Shortly after settling in, a sudden illness forced our then team leader off his feet. Without skipping a beat and with extraordinary confidence (...and an extra box of candles to burn), Abdo took the leadership role. "I suppose some of the challenges and diversity that you experience when moving far away from home at a young age helps prepare you in these sort of things, and besides, I had allot of smart and reliable people around me". But don't worry, Matt (our former team leader) is doing better and still makes his talents available to the company through telecommuting.
So with all his hard work in University and now at our company, I suppose one should be concerned that Abdo might be in neglect of his leisure and cardio-physical time. Nope! Abdo loves to read (a lot), and play chess and backgammon. He is also a black belt in Taekwon Do and trains several times a week at the renowned champions school of Grand Master Chong Lee. Rami L. - Commercial Operations Manager
Rami was born in 1980 in the middle of the civil war in Lebanon. His family fled the country a couple of years later in search of freedom and peace, and found it in "this great country called Canada".
Rami graduated with a degree in Finance from the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University. But don't let that fool you, his skills go much further than analyzing balance sheets. Rami has a strong ability to rapidly capture the bigger operating picture, not only of our own company but also that of our customers. "More often than not, when we work a project with a customer, we become a virtual extension of their operations... no two companies operate in the same way so it's important to try to understand the differences and find ways to synchronize and work efficiently". While you'll see Rami getting involved in the early sales process to the accounting side of things, his primary role is to manage the company's commercial operations including: proposals & quotations, order processing, customer service and post-sales account management. When asked if his background in Finance plays an important role in the day-to-day, he says "creating proposals for specific markets and managing SEO continuity strategies with your customers often comes down to one common denominator, return-on-investment. While most of our customers are not experts in the mechanics of SEO, all of them are experts in understanding the financial implications to their businesses... making sure that the translations come through is key".
Rami also manages to include sarcasm in almost everything he says, which keeps his co-workers on their toes. In the summer, Golf is his passion, and on his days off you'll find him on the course hitting golf balls as far as the eye can see. As a good Canadian, winter is reserved for Hockey, "I am a die hard Habs (Montreal Canadiens) fan since the day I came to this city at age 2, and I even moved right next to the Bell Center so I can be close to the action. My real obsession is with poker, so to stay fit I've been playing once a week for the last six years and hope to one day join the world series of poker".
Matthew Coder - Senior Technology Specialist
Matthew aka "the cleaner" has been with "MediaMarcom INC." & "SEO Internet Marketing INC." since 2004. My interest in web standards, and more specifically at first, standards-compliant markup, began just a short time after my initial exposure to working with the languages of the web. My previous experience with and interest in programming languages such as C++ and assembly language stemmed from the satisfaction I received from working within a set of rules and seeing the expected results.
My initial exposure to writing HTML and CSS in developing websites left a bad taste in my mouth after seeing my sites appear visually differently in the various internet browsers. After honing my markup skills to an adequate level, I understood how certain browsers were far from being standards compliant. Bugs may often be discovered and eventually patched in software, but it's a well known fact that still today, some of the most popular internet browsers are far from being developed according to the recommendations and standards put in place by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
While today's browsers *are* more standards compliant than they were just a few short years ago, many developers still shy away from learning to write full fledged web standard markup. I completely understand the disillusionment of these developers, however, if you have an in depth understanding of the CSS box model and the intricacies of the behavior of block level and inline HTML elements, you will understand how certain browsers miss the boat in certain areas of rendering markup, and with experience you can learn how to force these sub par browsers into playing nice, therefore reaping the many benefits of standards for today, and for the inevitable future. I know for a fact that dealing with poorly written browsers has forced me to garner a deeper understanding of the web languages I use, giving me an edge I am grateful for.
I believe, like many others, that the internet is indeed a very special medium, where there exists a certain amount of extremely valuable freedom, and as long as there exists the net neutrality we experience in today's interweb, the magic of this virtual world will continue to provide the easy and fair access to information we experience today, and will be brought to unimaginable new heights. In the interest of having web content available and accessible to all web users, regardless of the user agent, such as PC and voice browser, mobile phone, automobile-based personal computer of today as well as the devices of the future, the web standards community pushes forward for our collective interest.
Combining my experience and knowledge of Web Standards with white hat Search engine optimization allows me to reach the widest possible audience with whatever project I work on. Receiving positive feedback from clients on how their greatly enhanced web presence has allowed their business to grow sometimes tenfold is one of the very rewarding aspects of this work.
Shierra Maharani - Senior Web Designer & Developer
In 2002, I was introduced to the field of search engine marketing which, as one might expect, immediately led me into the world of search engine optimization.
After learning few basic search engine optimization techniques that were common at that time, I discovered the importance combining search engine optimization and website design; the earlier you can do this during the conceptual phase of your website, the better. This is not to say that existing websites have inherent disadvantages (most don't), it just takes longer and more effort to fix and get things back on track. The difficult challenge here is to try to maintain the artistic integrity of the existing website, while making the site search engine friendly. One thing that we've learned over the years through our customers is that most are willing to make a trade in favor of driving more customers to the website. After all, the purpose of our client's website is to ultimately bring in more customers, opportunity and make more money... so the 'singing bells' and 'shiny whistle' quickly take a back seat. But then again, I'm a website designer by trade (the best...thank you!) and it's in my nature not to give up artistic integrity without a fight. The battle of course is the balance of technologies (SEO & Web Design); that's were I think I add the most value to the company... I create the balance.
The most exciting part of my work is working with clients who are willing to share their ideas and help me understanding the ideas that they have in their head. Many are shy or hesitant at first to express their ideas, but once you get them going all this great stuff comes out, and that's what makes each sites unique, because most create ideas; all they lack is the skills to transfer their ideas on the 'canvas'. I truly enjoy being the person that can help turn your ideas into creative internet driven businesses.
In my spare time, I surfed a lot on the internet and most of the time poking around on the net just to look for some website articles or tutorials. These days I'm in a self-taught mode by reading tutorials on the internet and taking bits and pieces to create and improve on best practices. I involve myself regularly in internet group discussions, both as a teacher and student. Other than that, you could find me wrestling in the backyard with my handsome champion German shepherd Rockefeller or just "Rocky" to his friends.

Annie B. - Senior Project Manager
Annie was born in 1980 in a beautiful little town named Senneterre in Abitibi, Quebec. She grew up in a nice neighborhood, playing baseball and slingshot, catching frogs and squabbling with her 3 brothers. As Senior Project Manager at SEO Expert, it is company policy that all fingers point toward Annie.
Annie studied Marketing Management at Montreal's renowned HEC School of Business and to this day she remains passionate and enrolled in some type of academic study. She also loves to reminisce about her past job experiences which range from papergirl, waitress, and professional model, to sales and administration. Annie's philosophy is 'if you have an interest in something, don't wait around... just do it!
"The first thing you need to know about me is that I'm blond but definitely not dumb (...although speeding tickets are optional)! I get a real charge from managing multiple types of complex projects that usually span a broad array of customers and market segments. I also find that the development team's creative juices flow best when we get the opportunity to cycle through a variety of product disciplines such as SEO, web design, copywriting or special customer programs during the course of a typical work week... it sort of forces you to step back and look at the trees."
Early on, when Annie first joined the company, she became extremely passionate about the services provided by SEO Expert and the positive impacts that they created for customers. She quickly evolved into the boss's right-hand woman, and was instrumental in refining the way the company worked with its customer. She also soon took charge of all the French search engine optimization projects, and was given the responsibility of being the server 'smooth' operator. If Annie had to choose one specific task at SEO Expert, her response would likely center around the creation of search engine friendly copywriting; "when I was a child, writing (about anything) was always a treat for me, especially if I knew someone was interested in reading it"
As the official company scapegoat, Annie quietly soaks it all in, and then takes it out on strangers that approach her in the subway (who by the way fall into the same category as mushrooms, olives and clowns). The fastest way to Annie's heart is by giving her a new challenging project... of course a concert or movie, a box of chocolate, and a Mexican sunset will also do the trick.
